Wema Bukembe Development Organization

Who We Are

We believe in treating everyone with respect, dignity, and equality, regardless of
their race, gender, religion, or socio-economic status.

About Wema BDO:
Wema BDO is a non-governmental organization in Western Kenya that drives community development through a multifaceted approach that encompasses women and youth empowerment, education, and climate action.

Mission:
To empower communities through sustainable development initiatives that focus on education, women’s empowerment, and climate action, fostering a better future for all.
Vision:
To be a leading organization in creating lasting positive change in communities by harnessing the power of education, innovation, and collective effort.

HOW WE DO IT:

1.Women Empowerment:
-Wema Girls’ Soccer Cup: Nurtures talents and imparts life skills to 300 girls in 14 villages, fostering independence, preventing early pregnancies and marriages, and encouraging girls to stay dedicated to their education.
-Wema Girls’ Hostel: A rescue center for over 350 underprivileged girls, providing a safe haven and a transformative platform that fosters self-belief and fuels aspirations. These young girls blossom into empowered women who will drive lasting change within themselves and their communities.

2. Empowering Young Men:
Breinin House: A Boys’ Center that accommodates and supports 250 young boys and men, offering them education, career guidance, and holistic development.

3. Empowering Through Education:
-Lotus of Highway Schools: A beacon of quality education, fostering academic excellence and personal growth for more than 600 children within the immediate community.
-Wema Technical Training Institute: Wema Institute equips women and youth with essential skills like computer literacy, entrepreneurship, baking, accounts, masonry, and more. These skills empower them to contribute to their families and uplift their communities.

4. Environment initiatives: We have set up various initiatives to champion climate action; Green Schools Program, Chwele River Greening and School of Forest Farmers. We have also distributed water to the surrounding community.
