Wema Bukembe Development Organization is involved in so many initiatives and activities that support the community.

What We Do

1. Rescue, and rehabilitation of needy children at Wema children centre

We provide holistic care and protection to vulnerable children who include orphans, neglected, abused , child mothers and abandoned e.t.c Wema is currently supporting over 800 children in the centre and more in other high schools, colleges and universities.

2. Wema Girls Hostel

A rescue center for over 350 underprivileged girls, providing a safe haven and a transformative platform that fosters self-belief and fuels aspirations. These young girls blossom into empowered women who will drive lasting change within themselves and their communities. Wema also has a boys centre, The Breinin House, that accommodates and supports 250 young boys and men, offering them education, career guidance, and holistic development.

3. Education

Wema runs Lotus of highway schools to provide holistic education to the children at the centre and other children in the community as well. Our schools include;

– Lotus of highway Early childhood center
– Lotus of highway primary schools
– Lotus of highway junior high school
– Lotus of highway senior high school

Wema Technical Training Institute: Wema Institute was founded in April 2024 with the main aim of imparting skills for sustainable livelihoods to youth and women. Wema TTI offers courses in ICT, entrepreneurship, masonry, and plumbing. These skills empower them to contribute to their families and uplift their communities. Our mission is to Inspire.Innovate.Impact. We are happy to partner with Pratham International as our knowledge partner, ensuring the quality of our education.

4. Wema Girls Cup

The Wema Girls Cup is a soccer initiative operating in the rural regions of Bungoma, Western Kenya. Active across 14 villages, this initiative currently supports 14 teams with a total of 300 girls. Our vision is to expand this program to more villages, bringing our coaching and life skills curriculum to empower even more young women. Our overarching goal is to cultivate independence, mitigate early pregnancies and childhood marriages, and motivate girls to remain dedicated to their education. Our mission is BUILDING CHAMPIONS: On and Off the field. CHAMPIONS is an acronym that stands for our core values; Confidence, Hollistic Development, Advocacy, Mentorship, Potential, Innovation, Oneness, Nurturing Talents

How we do it:

1.Skill Development: Daily field practices, and weekly football coaching sessions

2.Life Skills Education: We teach life skills in schools.

3.Championships: Conducted every school holiday.

5. Environment Conservation & Water Provision

Wema has a deliberate program that gears towards climate change mitigation and adaptation. Wema has planted over 50,000 trees in bukembe area. Wema has developed a forest cover of about 10 hectares. Wema boasts a total of 5 tree farms. The Nasaka tree farm, Makotelo tree farm, Misanga tree farm, kibochi tree farm and machinjoni tree farm. Wema also has several community programs

– Green Schools Program: This is a school based program; we have a 10 module curriculum that we teach to schools to inspire them to become climate warriors, and to encourage them to plant trees in their schools and homes.
– Chwele River Greening Initiative: Aimed at restoring vegetation along River Chwele
– School Of Forest Farmers: We have established a farm where farmers can come to learn on agroforestry.

-Provision of water

The Wema well has been a fountain of life to many homes in Bukembe community. We supply water to 46 homes and two schools in the immediate community, and recently we constructed a steel tank and laid additional pipes, that will increase our reach to 3000 people within the community.
