As the children in our Climate and Environment classes were closing for a two week break in August, we challenged them to implement the lessons they have learnt in the classes and
give a report of the same when they report back to school.
We’re happy to report that so much was done, the children undertook so many activities to create awareness on climate change to their families and the community. The Lions Club of Bungoma feels extremely privileged to inspire young children to be climate warriors, who are now creating an impact in the community. We would like to share with you one of the best presentations done by our students;

My name is Purery Juma. I am the chairperson of the Environment Club at Lotus of Highway. I’m very grateful for the 10-module session we have been offered by Lions club of Bungoma, I would like to share how I have implemented the lessons learnt;

1. I have established a tree nursery in the school garden. All school workers and teachers have been receiving trees to plant in their homes.
2. I attended the youth conferences. I requested a chance and I was granted. I educated them on climate change and environment. I rewarded those who answered questions and planted trees at the end of that session. Many youths joined me and we formed a club with them.
3. The following day I visited our local chief in his office. I helped him to clean the office and we had a talk. He agreed to join us. He accepted to restrict on cutting down trees and littering. He said that he is also going to discuss this matter with district officer.
4. I visited many schools which were on tuition. I got a chance to enlighten them and all of them agreed to form environmental clubs.
5. I visited the market place. I did cleanliness in school uniforms. After some minutes, very many people joined me and we did wonderful work. They encouraged us to continual creating awareness to other people because of this climate change.
6. I visited one of my friends; the head mistress of Holy Family Misikhu. Previously I wrote a letter to her. She attended many seminars and she addressed her fellow head teachers on matters climate. She also told them to help young generations to form environmental clubs mostly in their schools.
7. I have formed the Young Kenyan Environmental Club comprised of different students from the various schools and colleges. Each of them is going to form while others have already formed environmental Clubs in their institutions.
8. I also joined local football club in my community. People are not believing in what we are doing. We have been planting tree as before we start a tournament somewhere else. In 5 days over 35 people have joined it. It is very active on the matters of climate.
