Wema Bukembe Development Organization
We’re excited to announce the successful creation of two rain gardens at Wema, marking a substantial stride in our storm management efforts. The collaborative efforts of our environment club members, working alongside the EWB team, made the construction process a source of great satisfaction.
The methodical process involved excavating the designated area, layering it with large stones, followed by smaller stones, and thereafter a mix of sand, compost, and topsoil. The careful planning included setting the rain garden’s level below ground to optimize water flow, with provisions for both inlet and outlet to address potential overflow.
Rain gardens serve as effective tools in combating flooding by capturing and filtering rainwater, reducing runoff, and preventing soil erosion. Additionally, they contribute to groundwater recharge, enhancing overall water quality. This accomplishment not only underscores our dedication to environmental conservation but also emphasizes the positive impact these rain gardens bring to our local ecosystem. #environmentconservation
