Today we conducted the second session of the Climate Emergency Action Program at the Lotus of Highway School. Children from all our three schools were present ranging from grades 6-12. Eighteen teachers were also present. The program curriculum is divided into ten modules. Today we covered module one. It covered the definition of climate change, how global warming occurs, the greenhouse effect, the relationship between carbon dioxide and global temperatures, the keeling curve, how carbon dioxide accumulates, the Paris agreement, the Kyoto protocol, and all the efforts that have been done to mitigate climate change since 1990.The children asked questions and were thereafter given an assignment. We look forward to Module two.
CLIMATE EMERGENCY ACTIONS program is aimed at delivering climate education to children in rural schools. The climate curriculum is presented by Dr. Vasudevan Rajaram in collaboration with school teachers using his book; Climate Change and Environment-How it Impacts us all. This program is done in partnership with the Lions Club of Bungoma. It also engages the children in tree planting in their schools, in public places and in their homes. Our vision is to stir school children into becoming climate warriors.
