Wema Girl's Cup

The Wema Girls Cup is a soccer initiative operating in the rural regions of Bungoma, Western Kenya. The Wema Girls Cup is currently active in 20 villages, supporting 20 teams and over 400 girls. The program works closely with schools, community coaches, families, and local leaders to ensure girls participate safely and remain engaged in education.
Girls involved in the program come from rural communities where access to structured sport, mentorship, and leadership opportunities is limited.

Our Vision

At Wema Girls Cup, our vision is a future where every girl in rural Kenya has the opportunity to realize her full potential – socially, academically, and economically.

We envision communities where:

  • Girls are valued equally to boys
  • Sport is a tool of empowerment
  • No girl is left behind due to poverty, gender and circumstance

About Us

Wema is  a Swahili word meaning ” Goodness”, and that’s what we aim to grow, goodness in girls, in community and in the game. We work specifically with girls from rural communities in Western Kenya, places where girls are highly susceptible to early childhood pregnancies and Gender Based Violence. It is an initiative that sees a powerful vision: to use football not just as a sport, but as a tool for freedom, courage and confidence. In communities where girls are often sidelined, Wema Stands as a fierce reminder that girls belong on the pitch, in leadership and in the future of our country.
